Kandi's Treasures
With Thanksgiving and Christmas racing upon, us at tornado speed, most are thinking about feasts and presents. In our community, and many others, the unemployment and homeless rate is skyrocketing.
There are more and more people that are wondering how they will be able to get in out of the weather, where their next meal is coming from, when they will get hired for their next job, how they will get clothes, how they will get medications and other supplies they need.
It saddens me to know there are going to be many people doing without something they need.
If you can give I suggest that you:
- Contact your local Citizens Against Spouse Abuse organization and ask what it is they need.
- Contact your local homeless shelters and ask what it is they need.
- Contact your local Juvenile Justice and foster care systems and ask what is needed.
- Contact your local boys and girls group homes and ask what it is they need.
- Adopting one family would make a world of difference. Provide food, clothes, cleaning supplies, toiletries or what ever they need.
- Contact disabled and elderly in your own community and ask what they need.
- Contact your local humane society or other animal protection organizations in your area and ask what they need.
Other ways to help:
- Start a food drive for your own community.
- Start a coats for kids drive in your own community.
- Find Home School Families that need help.
- Put up a giving tree in your own community.
Locally we have several organizations with giving trees all over the place, at this time of year. You do not see lots of decorations on these trees, but mostly tags. Tags with the clothes sizes and wishes of one or two toys wished for by a Child. People look at a tag and get clothes and/ or gifts. The items are returned wrapped or unwrapped.
- Volunteer at a local soup kitchen. Help to prepare meals and serve to the needy.
I say yes you can. One person can make a difference. You would be surprised how your local business owners are willing to help out also. You won't know which ones until you ask.
Personally I wish everyone, across the globe, a joyous holiday season. These suggestions can be used year around and not just for holidays.
Peace be with you all,
