I have had CA- MRSA .

I was working on my computer one day, a few months ago, and had to use the bathroom. I was washing my hands and looked up in the mirror to see a tiny red bump coming up on my chin. I was thinking ‘Great, another zit'.

I did nothing except went back to work. About an hour later I had to use the bathroom again. I washed my hands after and noticed that the tiny red bump had grown in size considerably for such the short time that had passed. About 3-4 hours after I had first noticed this tiny red bump on my chin I had a golf ball size thing growing on my face. It was quite red and very painful.

I put some rubbing alcohol on it about 3 times a day and washed well with soap and water. After only one day the area was still swollen, red and sore. Now it was dried out only on the surface.

I read the Germ X bottle and discovered that it has aloe and other natural moisturizers and is mostly rubbing alcohol. I began to use this instead of plain rubbing alcohol. After a couple of days it did head up and I was able to squeeze some of the contents out and relieve some of the pain and pressure. I thought it would be well on the way to recovery.

After 7 days went by this growth was not going away and my entire head was swollen. I felt light headed, my entire head hurt and I had one of those ‘Something is seriously wrong' headaches. Instead of going to the Dr. I went to work. By the time I left work I could not stand it any longer! I had Dwayne drive me straight to the Emergency Room.

The Dr. who treated me came in and only looked at me from across the room. I told him how this thing had progressed over the past week. He continued to stand across the room and stated "What you have here is a case of CA MRSA". I was not sure I knew what he had just said to me. I asked "So what it that"? He said it is a rare staff infection that is becoming wide spread among the public." I then asked if he was talking about the Staff infection that CNN had reported was once only in Hospitals, but due to poor practices among hospital personnel, now it is running ramped among Americans everywhere. He only responded with a nod and said yes.

The Dr. said he would send the nurse in to give me something for pain and to prep me for lancing. He left and in a few minutes a nurse came in and gave me 2 pills and set up a kit on a small table beside the bed. She was asking me questions and when I told her about being able to get some of the infection out she replied "That is a good thing". She left me alone in the treatment room again, but not for long.

The Dr. returned and asked me to lie down on the bed and told me he was going to lance it. I lay back as he was reaching for that huge spot light above the bed. He turned on the light and positioned it right over my face. "Wait a minute" I proclaimed, "I'd like to put on my shades while you do this".

"Are you serious?" He responded. "Yes, that light is hurting my eyes." He did let me get up off the table and walk over to the counter and put on my shades. I lay back down, while I saw him reaching for one of he biggest needles I have seen in a long time. (Note that I am afraid of needles)

The Dr. filled the needle from a small vile. He then poked it into the swollen place on my face. He stuck this needle in about 3 times. A couple of times he moved it around, as if to stir up the contents of the huge bump. I thought my head would implode from the pain, until the anesthetic he had shot in there took effect.

I was focused on what was on the TV on the wall. I can't tell you what was showing, as I was only focusing my attention away from the painful procedures that were happening to my face.

The next thing I knew the Dr. had a small scalpel in his gloved hand. He grasped the base of the bump with one hand and started to attempt to cut a hole, to drain the contents. He cut several times before he actually opened it up. When he got it I knew it! There was liquid draining down my face. He put several gauze pads around it to catch the drainage. He actually did squeeze it a couple of times, after the draining slowed.

The next thing he did was get one of the HUGE culture Q-Tips and stuck it into my face, at the site where he had cut. He poked and prodded around in there for about 45 seconds or so. This was uncomfortable. One place seemed to have been missed by the anesthetic.

I was prescribed the antibiotic Bactrim and Bacitracin Cream. The nurse explained that antibiotic Bactrim was the only one prescribed for MRSA as this staff infection is stronger that most antibiotics. She also explained that the Bacitracin Cream is quite expensive and if I could not afford it to ask the pharmacist to show me the over the counter equivalent. I did buy the over the counter Bacitracin Cream. The prescription cost almost $60.00 alone.

I was not allowed to return to work until I had been taking my antibiotic for at least 24 hours and I had to keep the area covered at all times.

This took about 2 weeks to heal to the point that I did not have to keep it covered all the time.

Now after some research I have discovered that MRSA spreads in exactly the same way as Impetigo. When the affected area is open, running and loosing the infection stored inside it; this is what spreads. If you get it on your hands and touch another part of your body another area will be infected. If you get this on your hands and touch an object, then someone comes behind you and touches that same place they can contract it. This is not an air born infectious disease, but is VERY CONTAGEOUS!

I have found that medical professionals tend to use pure rubbing alcohol sprays to clean up the hospital rooms after patients who have been treated for MRSA have been. It is also believed that Alcohol will kill the MRSA and keep it from spreading.

Also note that:

It has been shown that 2.4 % of all well children carry MRSA in their noses. We do not have to develop symptoms to be a carrier of MRSA, but can spread it to others.

If left untreated MRSA can be fatal.

Please do research this and other communicable diseases to the fullest extent. Learn how to protect yourself and your loved ones.

Above all carry a small bottle of Germ X with you at all times. Use it often! We have a huge economy size, with the pump, sitting on our bathroom sink. You can usually easily find a bottle of Germ X around where we are at all times. We have small bottles in the living room and kitchen as well.

Take your antibiotics religiously. Remember each dose no matter what it takes and no matter what happens do not fail to take them until they are gone. Just because you start feeling better does not mean you are cured. Failure to take all your antibiotics exactly as prescribed will only harvest the MRSA and you will get worse.

The hard part was figuring out how a germ phobic like myself could have contracted such a thing. I thought long and hard. Finally I remembered that back in 2005 I had visited a woman's home which was hospitalized for a couple of months. The doctors were helping her fight some sort of staff infection that no antibiotics would touch.

I had MRSA back about tweenty years ago and entered through psoriasis on my foot,I went to many DR.s and it went missdiagnosed as a fungal infection for over a year, mine had to be treated with a cath in my heart four six weeks with Vancomiacin. It started getting well right away,I could tell because my foot was one huge sore dischargeing well you know, and it started to dry out,at the same time I was being treated by a Dr. of Derm. and he was useing metheltrexate injections for the psoriasis.long story short my kidneys started to shut down from the drugs interacting,I did get better after months, but you are right ,I cant think of a term to describe the pain and loss as far as money goes,do research to keep you and your families safe from this evil bug people..Sorry for the misspelling

I appreciate your input. This is something that was once confined to hospitals, but since there has been carelessness (or conspiracy to kill people off) it is out in the public. Myrtle Beach, SC and the entire Grand Strand of SC is ridden with MRSA.

I have since been diagnosed with MRSA again. This time there was an absessed cyst beside my Left ear. I was informed that this was MRSA. I am wondering if it was not completely treated when I was diagnosed the first time

I do believe that we should all be careful and concious of germs. How often do you think of all the germs that are on currency? No one is going to disinfect the currency.

How about the items we buy in the stores? Someone has to put it on the shelves and out for display. What kind of germs are on the hands of the stockers?

The counters in public places are covered in germs, no matter how many times they are washed. Someone else with germs on them will come along and make them germy again.

I see that there are signs in hospitals that tell you to ask your doctor, and the nurses treating you, to wash their hands. I thought that this was common practice.

Germs are everywhere. You do not have to be a germophobic to be careful and concious ot the dangers of germs getting on or in you.

Bright blessings to each and every one around the world.
