Today is September 24th, 2011 and it is 2:24 AM – EDT - Over the past couple of months I have been planning to attend the 9th year Spooky Empire 2011 in Orlando Fl October 7th & 8th. I was specifically writing my itinerary to include a visit to see Mama Mossie and My cousins Angie & Eric Franscisco during this weekend. I have not physically seen Mama Mossie since 1995. Angie, Eric and & Haven't been together since since the 80's.
Home Alone during daylight, I was sitting at my desk, but engrossed in a phone conversation. Staring at the reflection of the house behind me; through the reflection on my computer monitor. I saw what appeared to be an older woman, wearing a long white flowing gown, walk out of my kitchen. I could see through her entire existence. She turned left toward the bedrooms, just as if she lived there. After mentioning this to the person on the phone, she walked back out of the hall, and over behind me where she touched my shoulder. It startled me. I saw her come out and was looking for her to go back toward the kitchen. At the second she touched me my eyes were averted over to my own reflection in the monitor. There I saw her standing behind me with a loving smile on her face.
The next night Dwayne mentioned to me that he had seen someone’s spirit go past him, as he sit in the chair watching T.V. The next evening I was vacuuming the living room floor when the vacuum stops working, for no reason. It just quit! I checked the plug, I tried the on – off switch and the breakers in the breaker box. I even turned this thing over to see if it was clogged. There was no reason this vacuum should have stopped working. Heck it was operating just fine! I went in to make a cup of coffee and step back for a second.
With Dwayne King as my witness – I was standing at my kitchen sink, rinsing out a cup, to pour a fresh cup of fresh brewed coffee, I got ready to step away from the sink when the door, to the cabinet under the sink, flew open and hit me on the leg; stopping me in my tracks. Steaming hot coffee in hand I returned to the living room sipping as I walked. I stood there looking at this contraption for a moment. It was amazing how I heard Mama Mossie's voice say “Go plug it into the bottom part of the receptacle.” I silently I walked over, did as instructed, walked back to the vacuum, touched the on switch with my toes and viola! It was operating perfectly.
Yesterday morning I was trying to call my grandmother who I refer to as Mama Mossie. That is what she asked me to call her back in 1974 when I met her for the first time. I had spoken to her last in May of 2011, at which time we spent about two hours in Grandmother – Granddaughter land. Over the years she and I have kept up with each other through telephone communications.
Since May I have desperately attempted to call her, but kept getting an error message at every number I had for her. Her 91st Birthday was September 19th 2011 and I have been desperately trying to get hold of her for months and now I was getting more frustrated. I was sitting at my desk and my youngest daughter, Heather, popped up on chat. I tell her that Mama Mossie's birthday was this month then went on a pursuit to find Mama Mossie's correct phone number so Heather could call her. In my failure I pointed my mouse to Google Search.
I typed in her name, city and state of residence. When the search results page loaded, right there on the first page about midway down, I saw a listing for her obituary. I almost fell out of my chair. It is no surprise since the past few days she has been here with me, in my home, trying to tell me something. The veils of the spirit world and the flesh world have just become thinner enabling her to be here. I feel blessed.
I want to introduce you to an inspiration for The Pursuit Of Happiness & Strive To Succeed. Her name is Mossie C. Bateman. I'm going to start by copying the information from her obituary.
Mossie C. Bateman, age 90, of Sanford, Florida passed away May 30, 2011. She was born September 19, 1920 in Salem, Virginia to Cloud Ranson and Mary (Stultz) Collins. She was the owner and founder of Bateman Realty and a member of Pine Crest Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Garden Club, Sweet Adelines and the Pilot Club. Mossie is survived by a son, Donnie Wayne Taylor; two daughters, Sylvia Booth and Kaye Warner; step-son, Robert A. Bateman; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Vitas Hospice.
In 1984 Mama Mossie revealed to me that she had been battling Lymphoma Cancer for some time now. Through the years she has had a few close calls, been through millions of dollars worth of treatments and went into remission a few years ago. As stated in her obituary she was a member of the Sweet Adalines music group. She toured the world singing with this group. She and the group have won awards across the globe. One day we were on the phone for a couple hours when she told me about the time she was flying to Italy with this group.
Bored in the long plane trip the group cheered her to stand in the aisle and sing. After some resistance she did stand and sing, giving it her heart and soul. She recollected how one male admirer took great interest in this show in the sky. He never spoke to her the whole time though. They arrived at the Vatican, lined up along one side of the room and while waiting for their cue this man walked up to Mama Mossie and asked her to do a solo for the Pope. I see the grin on her face, through the phone, when she said she got a standing ovation by the Pope first.
See, Mama Mossie was born and raised Salem, Virginia. Over time I have discovered that this woman has gone from Mountain poor to comfortable with such driving force, that it is no wonder she lived for decades with Lymphoma for decades. She married, had three children and then realized that her relationship was not going to work. Mama Mossie moved to Florida. With the help of her family she was able to go to college. She made a point to tell me that she borrowed the money, but paid every dime back and told me stories of hard times raising her children. Eventually she remarried Mr. Bateman. Mrs. Bateman and Mr. Bateman Owned and Operated Bateman Realty in Sanford, Florida. Several Years ago Mr. Bateman passed and Mama Mossie passed on into the beyond owning Bateman Realty.
Through it all she has become one of my idols and inspirations in life, with her constant reminders of how strong a woman can be and yes a woman can be successful in anything she sets out to accomplish. No matter what life throws at you as long as you live to fight another day you can make this one better than the last, and make a difference. She also taught me that when life pelts lemon on the head, you don't run away and hide, instead why not make lemonade and sell it and to appreciate the little things in life. For this I can not find words to express my gratitude.
I will always love you Mama Mossie! You will live on in me forever!
